Most positions at the Pennsylvania Department of Aging are covered by a merit system that is managed by the State Civil Service Commission. The Department of Aging has only a very limited number of jobs not covered by civil service.  

Applicants not already employed by the Department of Aging or in a civil service position elsewhere are encouraged to take an exam for a specific civil service job title(s). For more on the job titles with open exams, please visit 


The Aging Services Specialist is a program professional civil service job title used by the Department of Aging. The civil service examination for the Aging Services Specialist is now open and will continue to be open until September 23, 2017. To find out more about the exam, please click on Open Test Announcements. It will take you to the State Civil Service Commission's Open Test Announcements page. Click on the "Social and Employment Services" block and scroll down to the Aging Services Specialist Announcement #2017-043.

Interested test-takers should carefully review the announcement for details about the job duties, qualifications, exam information and how to apply. Please note that test-takers are not applying for a job; they are applying to take an exam to get on a civil service list. Civil service lists are one of the recruitment options that the Department of Aging can use to fill vacant Aging Services Specialist positions. 

Exam applications can be completed online at the State Civil Service Commissions's website. After completing an online application, the applicant will be prompted to continue on to schedule the test. The applicant will be asked for the location, dates and times he/she is available for testing. We recommend printing the selected location, date and time and/or logging back on to confirm that the test was scheduled. Questions or problems with the test scheduling should be referred to the State Civil Service Commission at 717-783-3058.
